Hi all,

Great forum.

I'm looking to buy my second chimaera after a 6 year barren spell. I think the above is not too bad a price and mechanically it is sound as you would expect. It doesn't appear to have had a hard life at all and has the original front tyres and just had original rears changed. there's a ton of paperwork showing exhaust manifold re-sealing which I had on my previous chimaera. Also shows waxoyling on one occasion.

However, outrigger of chassis along length of sill is corroded. You can see the original coating flaking and rust under starting to flake. the tube is still solid to push and inboard the chassis looks ok.

Also the pearl paint finish overall is very good. However, some areas of stone chips to the front don't appear like my old starmist paint did. With the pearl it looks like an area of lacquer around the chip has been lost resulting in a slight colour change. also in a couple of small areas the paint looks to have bubbled slightly. Rear boot lid also looks very slightly faded in patches.

Venturing back into TVRs as I am (thank God!!!) I would be very appreciative if anyone out there could comment of the price of the car (has a FTVRSH)and my concerns about the outriggers and paint.

Does anyone know the cost for a good respray if I went that way in years to come ?

My old Chimaera had areas of outrigger corrosion but I sold (back to Fernhurst after 7 years!!!) before I carried out any remedial work. can outriggers be replaced by cutting and shutting?

Many thanks in anticipation.

After 12000 I would very much doubt there would be any real corrosion in the chassis, most likely just surface rust.
If I was you I would look up the cost in getting the chassis professionally treated again and then negotiate the price.
If you buy it and are willing to get dirty get the car off the ground as high as possible and have a real good look. It could be just the outriggers with corrosion so you can clean treat and re-paint yourself.
