Most likely instrument lighting on/off... try it when the lights are on. Not like you need to see oil pressure or temperature at night, eh? laugh

at night having the instrument lights switched off is meant to improve long range visibility, but I was never that convinced

I think stevebrac means 'to improve long range vision'. Don't think having a Chim's instrument lights on or off will do a lot for visibility one way or the other!!!!

What is the rotating knob on the left hand side of the steering column?

Two years of ownership and I can't make it do anything.

That one varies the speed of the intermittent wipers.

The switch for turning the dash lights off is a great feature when you're driving late at night on B roads with the roof down. The only trouble with it is that unless you're on dipped beam the LED behind the main beam light (on mine anyway) is brighter than the actual head lights so you can't see a thing.

The twisty knob supposedly changes the speed of the intermittent wipers but I've yet to see one that actually works!

It's not the speed but the length of the gap between wipes. Mine worked okay.

yes must admit the 1st time i drove at night,i thought bloody hell he could have been honest about the dash lamps not working, he was straight about everything else and dident seem the kind to put up with that, then found the switch the following day,DOOOOOOH.What a waste of a switch be better if it dimmed.

TVR's have had the facility to switch off the internal instruments for years (my dads old Vixen has the switch on the dash panel), but i understood that it was so you could isolate the internal lights if you had to park the car with the side lights on. Not sure if that was for privacy / security, or to save the battery, but its surely not so you can drive at night without knowing how fast you're going....

Paul

I expect that the above was the PC answer. In reality, as others have said it is a real bonus along those unlit country lanes.

I have a large round push button switch on the other side
of the steering cowl? When I press there is a relay click
behind the dash but nothing seems to happen. Previous owner
did not know it was there, I only found it when removing the
cowl to fit alloy stalks. Looks OEM but might not be.

Hang on, who's going to approve a switch on a sports car which means you can't see the speedo or rev-counter and night? I know Saab used to have a night-time dimmer facility which turned off all dash lights with the specific exception of the vital instruments.

Paul

The saab switched turned everything off bar the speedo, then if you went over about 5000 rpm the tacho lit up. wish the TVR could do that !

R666Tus, do you know if you have heated seats? Mine has a botton similar to the one for the lights on the RHS of the cowl and it is to turn the heated seats on.
