Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for solving the following problem:

- 1998/S Chimaera with new style rear lights
- side/main lights and number plate lights don't work at the rear
- fog light works
- reversing lights work
- brake lights work
- hazards/indicators work
- fuses seem ok

Any suggestions? An MOT failure needs resolving

:notwantingtoquotetheobviousbut: Check the wiring from the lights back (they could have come off, or the plastic melted and shorting out the loop??)

Assuming you've checked the bulbs work first?

Have you got a new car.....?????

I've had a quick look-see and there's nothing obviously adrift.

If one of the bulbs wasn't working would all four lights fail? Just went to check the bulbs and it's not particularly obvious how to get them out!

(It's Mrs Ted's car).

Not sure how the new cluster is wired up but normally when a bulb fails the others appear brighter.

Earth connection..(?) I'd assume the whole cluster uses the same one..

Just had a poke around. The fuse is ok but there's no power at the rear.

Could be the fuse panel. Take a look at the back. See if all looks to be in place. Had a Griff with the same problem. Had to get a specialist in to fix it. Sorry.

I think there may be some connectors in the area above the rear wheel acrches - all the wiring goes through to the front there. I believe it is all on the passenger side. I'd check these (undo/redo etc.) Also look in the Velcro'd panel behind to outside of the seat where the wires come through into the cabin - there are some connectors there too.

same thing happened to me in my old R Reg Chimaera.

From memory I think it was a loose relay. (which the dealer fixed)

Sorted. It was the connections within the door pillar. Twiddled those a bit and all is working again. Why there are connections there at all is a mystery to me but there you go!

Thanks for the tips.

The er... 'shed' is looking rather good at the moment. The wheels have been restored, I've just had two new spotlamps fitted to replace the smashed ones, the roof's been recoloured and it's just got a new MOT and some TLC.

I'll send you the invoice, a fleece will suffice though ;-)
