The search function doesm't seem to be working.....so

Which battery do I need for a '93 4.0?

The one that is in there (well actually on my garage floor) is a "065" 50Ah, 380A. I suspect that it is a bit too weedy for the car. It has been in there since I bought it 3.5ish years ago and has always been a little poor at holding sufficient charge if left for say a week unused, and I have always used a trickle charger.

I think that I want to get a more powerful one, but know that physical size is everything as the battery box is a bit of a squeeze. Any suggestions of a small powerful battery would be much appreciated!

Paul.

An "072" battery is what I fitted to mine(same as OE), pretty sure they all use the same battery.

After doing a search, I phoned Austec who sorted out the battery for my '94 400. It's running just fine now although I do keep it on a maintenance battery charger since the car isn't used that often.

It does seem that this is the official "listed" battery. However, in my car the battery box is too small for it. The 072 battery is 25.5 cm long and my battery box is only 24cm long. I believe that later cars have a bigger box with the fuses above the battery box, whereas in mine the battery box is elevated with the fuses/relays beneath it.

Anyway, I got a 075 which my local Motor Factors said was about as powerful as you get for the size. It's 60Ah, 590A. Still more powerful than the one it replaced.

Hi all, I have a problem very similar to Paul Garbette. My car is stranded with a flat battery, since the RAC want £125 to come and save the day I need to roll my sleeves up.
The battery I have is:
Varta Blue Dynamic
D21 560 77
560 077 060
12v 60ah 600a

Should I order another of the same? The current battery is about 24.5 cm wide and is a tight fix for the box so it sounds like an 072 battery will be too large.
It is being held into the box by a strip of interconnecting cable ties. I am hoping that this is the only fixing as I don't fancy lying in the road having a grop under the floor plan for the retaining bolts!

Any help or advice gratefully received.

The 072 was fitted to the later cars. Early cars had a smaller box and you would probably be better off with an 075. Halfrauds do the 072 and 075, and you can get a 4yr 075 (630) rated higher than their 072 (590).

You will have to remove the bolts underneath as there is no way of lifting the battery out of it's box in situ. Just mark the front position of the box, with a marker pen on the footwell floor for re-alligning, before removing the bolts..

Or, if like me the first time I changed the battery- and forgot to mark the box position, it's so much easier to find the captive nuts with the battery removed and then locate them on the box from beneath with a needle file or such like by prodding and adjusting. Then mark it's position.

It also doesn't help when manufacturers say their battery is a type 072 but have slightly different dimensions. Not a problem for the original OEM fitment but a big challenge for the TVR battery box. I always measure the replacement battery - been caught once, not again.

I chickened out and joined the RAC.
However this thread did at least help me buy the correct replacement battery. I got an 075 for £60.
Would you believe me if I told you that the RAC chap removed the old battery and refitted the new one within 15 minutes !!!
