Boot Lid Adjustment
Discussion
Yes. (Mine's a '98, but I think it's the same procedure)
Open the bootlid. If you look, you will see that the the staple (the part of the catch attached to the lid itself) has two nuts holding it to the bootlid.
If you undo the nuts a bit, you will be able to slide the staple up or down a little, thus adjusting how high or low the bootlid sits in relation to the rear wings. Move the staple a appropriate, tighten the nuts, close the lid, and check how well it fits. Re-adjust as necessary.
BUT - word of warning - if you adjust it so that the bootlid sits right down flush with the rear wings, you will notice you have to exert some pressure on the bootlid to close it, against the rubber seal. That extra pressure will be resisted by the catch, which is bonded to the rear of the car, above the numberplate. It is not particularly stong, and has been known to fail, so don't adjust it so that it takes too much force.

I wasn't too happy with the gaps down the sides and the rear of my bootlid so I tried "adjusting" it. I had the hinges all loosened off and the catch and spent about 3 hrs faffing about only to find it had already been at the 'optimum' position.
If your is higher one side it may be the hinge adjustment rather than the catch.

True - I forgot to say on my earlier post, I needed to tighten my hinge fastenings on one side - the allen bolt was loose (this dependent on what hinge system your Chim uses) By tightening it, I found that the "one side higher" issue was cured. Then the staple adjustment described previously sorted out the overall position.
