Ephalump ears...I have them...sort of
Discussion
Well, I finally managed to figure out what people have been saying about the much fabled elephant ears. I have them...or what is left of them. So I intend to make up some new ones to try and reduce the 'carpet is wet behind the seats' syndrome. There's a template on the forum somewhere, does anyone know where it is? Many thanks. People say they can be made from a bicycle inner tube. Does rubber thickness make a difference?
How many coats of water seal do people put on their roofs? I've put on three coats so far, and although the water seems to bead off initially the rain from the last few days seems to just get too much and eventually soaks into the fabic. Or am I just being too wary.
I also want to run some sealant along the bottom of the windscreen. It may be the cause of my wet drivers footwell problem. Do people recommend taking it off completely, running the sealant and then replacing it or just run the sealant between the screen and rubber?
Many thanks as always.He

EARS eh! Well to get the template drop .Mark a mail, he supplied the original one IIRC.
Rubber? I use 2mm Neoprene, supplied loads of pre-cut ears to fellow PH'er in the past, never bothered personally on my Chim!
Three coats of sealant SHOULD be OK, just make sure you do the stitching well.
Screen? however you decide to do it the rubber has got to be DRY! no sealant will adhere to wet rubber. I'd use Sikaflex it's the best for the job it ain't cheap though.
Also don't forget to seal all items and holes under the bonnet, including pop rivet heads etc.
All the best with getting it dry!
