Hi

I have removed carpet behind pedals to find were water is entering into footwell.
using a hosepipe with me upside down under dash and wife directing water on winscreen allowing water to enter under bonnet etc.
I can see water running down from behind pedal box roughly around centre pedal area down the buckhead itself.
But cant see behind it to find where its leaking in. All under bonnet areas are sealed as per Steve Heath bible.
Do i attack it from inside removing pedal box etc or from outside on ramps etc, not to sure were abouts to look on the outsde.

Thanks Alan

I had the same problem,I resealed everything but still had water coming in. The last thing i sealed was around the rivets of the plate above the brake reservoir and hey presto, no more water ingress. Hope this is helpful although re reading your post you may have already sealed this.

Thanks for reply
Drilled out rivets on ident plates in bay, replaced and sealed.
I can see rivets from footwell looking up and its not coming from there.
Think its from lower down than top of inner wing area.

Tried the search of forums but its usually about sealing the roof
or door seals or around the brake fluid reservoir and the black domed
thingy (forgot its name)

Hello Alan,

I'm going through the same thing myself. I think I've narrowed it down to the windscreen. Tonight is the first test as it's raining. I believe it might also leak from the clutch pedal and steering areas where it enters the bulk head. I think some where on here it also menation that there are about 12 entry points for the wires, although I could be mistaken.

Good luck. Hope you got lots of dry paper and towels.

I'm going through the same trauma, keep sealing approx 3 potential leak points a day. At this rate I'm bound to find it soon!

Waiting for it to rain again as I think I found the problem, wiper washer pipe had come away from the body leaving a fair sized hole. Might be worth checking.

I know you have already mentioned them, but have you personally resealed the gap around the brake fluid reservior and the black clutch 'dome'? - only ask because i had the same problem a while back - all the seals looked perfect, but in desperation I dug the lot out and replaced it & surprise surprise no more leaks. thumbup right up until the next time it starts to leak into the footwell, when i will think 'I've only just redone the brake/clutch seals, can't be them, redo everything else and learn my own lesson again...banghead

Had similar issues on my 400 earlier in the summer.
Went through all the usual in Steve heaths book, no luck, still leaking. Then I found it it, at the base of the widscreen is a long seal that goes around the entire screen and wraps around over tops of the rear of the front wings. Run you hand on the inside of the wing at the top on the shut line of the bonnet and go right back as far as you can underneath the seal mentioned above, right up there in that recess I found the silicone sealant had come away. I used long nosed pliers and pulled the old stuff out thoroughly dried it off, (it was july so very hot and drying was easy). I then shoved loads of fresh black silicone in, worked it in wearing rubber gloves, job done, no more leaks.

good luck
Frank
