after doing a few searches and finding other threads on running costs etc. I saw there is some variation, some people hardly have any problems and others are paying a few k a year to fix assorted problems their cars.
would anyone be able to tell me how much it roughly cost them to run their chimeara last year (general servicing, repair costs and replacement parts etc), just a quick breakdown like below

Year : 1997 P
Engine : 4.0
Mileage :
Total costs :
What work was done :

Any input appreciated very much, hopefully this will help a few others like myself thinking of purchasing a chimaera.

Just had my 97 400 serviced - £1100.
I did 5000 miles and had a full service £595 (as I'm fussy and wasnt convinced by the service carried out last year)
Suggest you allow £1500 as a safety net and then if you have some left over you can treat yourself to an extra pint when people look at you and say "TVR they always break down, dont they!"
I forgive mine anything as smiles per mile are priceless!

Take a look at mine if you want to get an idea of the the costs of running one daily... (I think I've left a few things out - I'll check sometime).

We sold our chimaera earlier in the year, had it for one year and it was a lovely motor, all we had to pay for we're basics like fuel, and upgrades that we wanted, oil etc etc.
sold the car on for what we brought it for so was very happy!

I did about £3000 or so on my 1994 4.0 over the 18months I had it. That did include a couple of big jobs like Clutch change and a new diff tho...........and it was worth every penny.

This last year our 1998 Chimaera 450 will have cost around £3K in maintenance. Our experience so far (seven years of ownership) is that this is somewhat high. Its more normal to be about £2k. Different things go wrong each year. Some years it needs discs and pads. We've never needed an engine rebuild and we've never has anything cosmetic like a bonnet respray done.

This last year has been somewhat frustrating in that the car has rarely been usable - its covered 500 miles since the last £1800 service and all of that was to and from Racing Green and The Garage.

I am seriously hoping that this year coming will be better. It would be nice to actually rack up a few miles in it again.

Year : 1996 N
Engine : 4.0
Mileage : 5000 (now 80K)
Total costs :£2082
What work was done : Front brakes £305, Track day prep £200, Radiator £120, Front respray £600, 12K Service £647, 2 tyres £210.

Plus Tax/Ins £600 and about £1200 fuel = £3882. Blimey, no wonder I'm poor. Worth it though!

Bit of an expensive year last year.
Chimaera 4.0 1996.
£2514.96 over 3954 miles. This includes Tax, Insurance, MOT and petrol, as well as the following.
New Batery, some glass fibre repair and a bolt for where the captive nut spun out
Manifold Gaskets, steering rack gaiter and MOT (inc. labour)
Major Service
Discs all round and pads (inc. labour)
and some various wash/wax stuf etc.

Interesting though as it was the first year we didn't use it as much due to sorting out a new house and the first ear it was garaged full time!

97 P 400, 50,000 miles
Average 5000 per year

Excluding insurance and petrol this year about £300.
Have owned for 3 years, service / look after my self, took for a service the first year a had her and was totally alarmed at the mess they made of it, never been back since.

Drove all the way to southern Itlay and back last year without missing a beat.

Mine's a '99 450 with 47k on the clock. Aside from insutance/tax, petrol & oil, a total respray due to vandalism,(*%!@~#*) and a few Levein bits and pieces:

1 Service incl. waxoil: £540

I'm quite pleased about that (not the vandalism), I spent more on my wifes '99 Escort!
