Tracking again... (but slightly different)
Discussion
If my car's alignment was as it should be, but the steering wheel was slightly off (to the left as it happens), but not far enough to fix with rotating the wheel a spline, am I likely to be able to fix by just toe-ing the appropriate sides in and out by equal amounts on the rods to centre things... I can measure things pretty accurately on the rod ends and don't want to spend another £80 notes on a full alignment if I can preserve the settings just by doing this. I guess the question is, is the adjustment 'linear' or 'geared'as the wheels move relative to the rack?
yes this one occurs quite often not just on chims, right the trick is to lengthen the track rod arm on the side the steering wheel spokes goes down on,in other words if the spokes are slightly to the left then add length to that arm, chims racks have quite coarse threads on the rack so i would give one full turn to start may be less, just remember equal amounts to both arms, add to one remove from other, its that simple.the amount your moving the adjusters wont affect the rack centralisation or your wheel alignment, just take your time, hope you can use this. problem occurs quite alot on cars that have had quickie alignment checks.customers know they have a job well done when the steerings straight.for racks that are behind the wheels the opposite is true,as in most FWD cars.
