Hi all,im after some info

I'm currently reveneering a 1996 dash panel, now I'm putting a backing of flexiply and then a thick, well compared to the original, veneer. The flexiply is 0.7 mm thick and the veneer 0.6mm.

Now there are four bits at the base to locate in slots on the dash, will these slots have a bit of play in them to get a bit of extra thickness in? I'm estimating my dash will be about 1mm thicker as the lacquer wont be as thick

TIA

you should just about get away with an extra 1mm... may be a little tight but should go...

From memory the extra 1mm shouldn't be a problem, though someone else may want to back me up on this one. Unfortunately all of the reference pics from my dash swap have those slots in the shade

My dad uses veneers on some of the boats he builds.

He's used the following in the past & gave me their numbers when I was thinking of re-doing my dash.

Vale Veneers 01296 433151
Crispins 0208 5250300

:shameless plug: I have a spare facelift dash (without veneer) I could flog if you don't want hassle of having car out of action for too long

It's OK I already have an old dash (without veneer) and a new one that I have had laser cut.

I'm playing around with different materials and finishes at the minute. Would like to try some of the more exotic burr veneers.

Thanks for the replies. Any more would be appreciated.

You could always leave the actual wood veneer short of the tabs if you think the flexiply layer will make it as thick as the original.

Anyone tried a black walnut veneer? I want to change mine but with the light interior I'm not sure machined ally works hence looking for a darker option eg carbon fiber. If any one has tried can they post pics?

I think it's the hole for the screw that attaches the blower switchgear unit to the back of the dash. Cant's really remember and without taking the top of the dash off I can't be sure. But there is definatley a screw that goes through the the outside of the dash at this point on mine. So i would say yes.

you need the hole... doesnt really matter if its countersunk as there is plenty of room under the dash lip. Without it you heater controlls will push back.
