Will these fit on to a Chimera? I know they're 5 stud so you'll need a hub conversion, but other than that, will they fit - offset, width etc? Has anyone actually done this before? I've photoshopped them on to a Chim and they look wicked. I'll post up a picture in a minute.

Will the 17's kill the handling by the way?

I fitted some form of speedline (Turini?) wheels to my S3. Used Peugeot compatible wheels on advice from Demon Tweeks as the offsets were about right. They fitted ok (4 bolt fitting) but the centre locating ring is slightly smaller on a peugeot than a ford which the wheel fitters were not too happy about. I got a workshop to make some very thin spacers which did the trick.

These are the RL7s which are fitted to some Cerbera's. They're IMO the best looking wheel for the car and, having put them on a Chim in Photoshop, they look awesome. Just wondered if anyone had done it and if so, did it kill the handling?

Hi Mark,

Can't see the pic in your profile - it's not showing for some reason. How much did the hub conversion cost and where did you get it done?

Hi Oliver, I also love the RL7s. I changed to five studs and AP 4 pots up front at the same time. If i remember correctly the kit cost me £1300 including a set of 16" spiders. I sold the spiders for £200 and bought a set of RL7s complete with tyres for £250, bargain. The only problem was the inside of the fronts just rubbed on the wishbones on full lock. There are two options either fit steering lock stops (easy to do) or fit spacers which is what i did. I fitted some 15mm spacers all round along with longer studs to match, bit more difficult but not rocket science. I haven't gone to all the bother about measuring and comparing offsets but this seems to work without any detrimental effects.

Not only do they look bloody good but they also tighten up the handling a little, i was getting too much tyre roll with the old 15 and 16s. I have heard also that 17 inch tyres are easier to source and are more competitive on price but i can't confirm this.

Andy

i was after rl7's for ages but gave up in the end and put 17" speedline 2120's

I found the handling better than on the 15/16s

I've got a set of 17" RL7's that I've just taken off my cerbie if you are interested. Haven't got round to putting them in the classifieds yet. They're in good condition and they have newish toyo proxies on them, ones got a slow puncture that I never got round to looking at though.

That looks really good Andy. By the way, I believe the Cerbera 5-stud 17" RL7 wheels have different a off-set front & rear, in which case did you use 4 x fronts or 4 x rears?

I have RL7's on my Griffith but I bought them 6 years ago when they were still being made so I simply ordered the correct 4 x stud versions Rich...

p.s. Regarding the title of this thread, the wheels were actually made by RaceLine. Speedline bought the remains Raceline when they went bust but unfortunatly did not continue production of the RL7 rim.

Hi Rich, They are a complete set straight from a Cerb so 2 x fronts and 2 x rears.
Actually i have two complete sets so i could try just fronts or just rears but i haven't felt the need because the spacers have cured the clearance problem.
BTW it looks as though you are running fairly low profile fronts in the pic, what size are they? and what profile rear do you use out of interest? Andy

Good choice of wheels, I bought my car because it had RL-7's on it (4 stud)they best looking I recon.

Oh of course, because you have the spacers I guess you can adjust off-set as necessary. I have 215/40x17 Bridgestone SO2 pp's on the front and 255/35x18" rears. I would like to go to a 225 front but can't find anyone who makes that width with a suitable profile. What do you use at the front on your 17"'s ? Rich...
