My first real problem in ages...

Went to get into car (94 plate) this evening and drivers door button (1.5" diameter) didn't work... although reaching in passenger side to use center console release did... any suggestions of the cause?

I can't help too much as mine has the mirror buttons. But, if you look at the panel at the back of the door from inside (behind the door) there'll be a flap you can lift up in the carpet. Lift this up and it will give access to the locking mechanisms and door solenoids. May be worth check the wiring here and also checking the solenoid itself is OK. A new one is only about £9 from Maplins.
Some more info can be found here - www.chimaerapages.com/resources_solenoid.php
Sorry I can't be of any more help but hope you get it sorted.

Fixed it... the solenoid release (cam?) seemed to be in the wrong place, let me explain. I think what happened was that whilst unlocking the car I simultaneously pressed the door open button and the central locking. On inspection, the door release mechanism wasn't actually catching anything (as it did on the passenger side). However, I appear to have repositioned the solenoid cam by operating the central locking with the door switch pressed in... and hey presto everything seems to be back to normal.

One to watch out for... spooky!

Obviously wasn't the case here, but I've seen the "arm" (bent coat hanger) deformed by pressing the button and clicking the solenoid at the same time, to the extent that the "arm" fell off. I'd guess it'd be possible to bend it just enough not to activate the solenoid as well.
