Its up top at the back near by the plenum...........you wont see a motor as its screwed into the plenum (from memory i think it's a 32mm)......when you take the plug off and unscrew it, you'll see a cone shaped end on the motor....this is the bit which needs cleaning.....dont overtighten when you put it back as they can shear easily

Remember that the stepper motor is plastic and very fragile and easily broken off, leaving you with a dead car. Remove and refit by hand being carefull not to overtighten.

This is what it looked like.
Would this be the cause of rough idling when cold.

Rough idle, no. Idle speed hunting or staying too high, possibly.

Once it is idling steadily, unplug the stepper motor, switch off and let the engine cool down. See whether it still misbehaves next time you start it. (Plug the stepper motor back in afterwards.)

Took the car out last night after cleaning the stepper motor the previous night.
A lot better much smoother so maybe i should change the petrol to the more expensive one?
