Then

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this post but here go's

I'd spent ages looking in Chimps got the bible found a friendly chap to source me one, arrange the loan £10k a bit of a yikes moment but affordable. I also had a test drive at the weekend driving .

Then this stupid gov't report came out on Monday and I am scared i'll be stuck with a 10 grand loan and a car I can't afford to run. I am so p........ i mean annoyed and just want to cry

What would you guys do? Part of me wants to say sod it and buy it and the other side tells me to wait until the dust settles and GB has had his official say?? Any advice/views would be gratefully recieved.

We may all have big engine cars but the majority of us only use them once a week if that so it is a little unfair.

Go for it because you will end up with a boring clit car (every ccensoredt has one) and regret it because they will tax you because it's silver.

P.S. sorry for swearing.

I'd say go for it, or you will never have one. I have had mine 4 years and I'm never going to sell it. Just maybe move countries where the petrol is cheaper!

No he meant the P at the end of Chim.. they are Chims or Chimaera's, not Chimps nono

As for the rest of it.. why let the Government tell you want to do..!? stick it up them and get the car if you want it. Don't be dictated to by some crappy ill-conceived report

To nick a Rolls Royce type of comment - if you're worrying about how much HMG is going to up the amount it's going to cost to run, you shouldn't be buying it.

TVRs are for life - not just until the next budget!

GO BUY IT, MAN!

Hey I can deal with the mpg an all that. I spent quite a while at the local indy on the weekend getting buying advice. I'll definately be taking my chim (got it right this time) when I talk my self round to getting one.

Question is is it worth paying less then £10k for one? I would love to think I could get one for £7-8k but am I just fooling myself?

Big Al.

The swearword he is refering to is CHIMP! Other than hairy chested Griff owners, we affectionally call it a CHIM.

Go for it.
I heard recently that
"You only regret in Life what you did not do
not what you did"
You only live once
Those reports are released on purpose to scare everyone
and we then think we have had a result when a toned down
version is brought in and we happily accept it

I have just brought my first TVR
forget miles per gallon
think Smiles per gallon
rotate

Cool Victor. On shaky ground at mo starting sway toward a purchase now though. I want that smile back driving

I'll have to get use to not engine breaking though. I read all about it in steve heaths book which arrived sat.

Go for it James. I was pathetic on the day before I actually agreed to buy mine! Ummmed and ahhed all blimmin day, and bored my workmate stupid with all my pros and cons shenanigans! When I had finally convinced myself that I did indeed deserve to treat myself to something I couldn't particularly justify, it was a HUUUGGGGEE weight off my shoulders! Seriously, an icredible release immediately following the phone call! Excitement all the way to collection day, and the drive home was probably the best I'll ever have!

On a slightly different note - why do they say not to do engine brakeing ??!! (And yes, go and buy the thing !!)

As the others have said, go for it!

It's a fantastic time of year to get one, the crisp autumn days with roof off & heater on are worth way more than the loan repayments/sacrifices, trust me!

I kind of wish I wasn't selling mine & if this news prolongs it a bit then I'll have to make the most of it driving

IIRC Steve H gives 2 main reasons:-

1. Brakes are cheaper to replace than gearboxes, driveshafts, etc.
2. The amount of torque produced by a 4-5 litre V8 is enough to lock the back wheels on downchanges, potentially causing a spin.

Would any Chim owners like to comment regarding point 2? Do you all avoid engine braking? Anyone had a spin caused by it?

I avoid engine braking in the TVR. Don't want the wear and tear issues. Plus when I got a bit of race instruction from a Pro, they say Brakes are for braking, engines are for going.

The spins are caused by the right pedal....
