Hi,
Long time since i've posted but i need some advice. Since we only get a chance to use the tiv at weekends, the battery is always being run down during the week. It also has a car cover on during the week to keep it dry etc. so there is no chance of putting one of those newton commercial solar powered trickle charge things in the window.
My question is: Has anyone had experience with deep cycle batteries in their TVR that have a lower discharge/faster charge rate?. Specifically Optima red and yellow top [no they don't do a gold top], or any other long life/modern batteries?
Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I had this problem, but an optimate charger (or similar). The batterys are not worth the hassle, they are a godsend. Starts everytime now without fail.

If you can't connect a trickle charger then how about one of those 'CarDisconnect' devices which breaks the connection to the battery and prevents current drain? You wouldn't be able to lock/alarm the car in this case though.

You obviously have something sucking power while the car is parked up - you could also try pulling a few fuses to see if it helps.

Probably 2 useless ideas, but if the car's outside and not near power what else can you do? Solve the fault causing the battery drainage I guess ...

I second that, 2 new batteries in the course of a year (2001), no problems since the optimate has been fitted.

I have one of the power cut off switches and I can lock the car.
It has worked a treat during the winter.
I continued to use the car but only at weekends etc.
No start up problems at all.
