clicky mileometer stopped working

my early (94) "click every tenth of a mile" mileometer (if that's the right description) only works for a few clicks after a few taps on the speedo with a knuckle.
is this curable or am I in need of a few calls to the breakers ?
either way I'm not looking forward to getting the dash top off.
any similar experience appreciated.

I took my dash off recently and although it took a while, it wasn't that difficult. I sent my odometer off to Speedy Cables in Swansea, £70.50 (inc carriage)later it was rebuilt and i put it back in.
If you'd like a hand doing the dash/odometer removal, i'd be happy to help. It's fresh in my mind so should be fairly straightforward.
