Some where on the forums I am sure I have seen reference to a key from possibly a tamora whereby you can put the contents of the meta fob into the key. I seem to remember that the person who put the picture up said that this was the "third option" for combining the key and fob.
Anyone know what I am on about??

I am taking my 450 (keenly resisting my other half's urging to give the car a name) down to 'Car & Bike Installations Ltd' at Petersfield tomorrow for a key conversion and to have a separate remote fob for the boot.

Has anyone had this done and experienced any post operative issues?

Thanks. Owen

Had my Chim done by Carl. Top bloke, and no issues at all with the conversion. Makes using the boot so much easier and puts an end to those incidents at petrol stations when you forget to pop the boot before getting out...

Top bloke Carl. He's one of very few who work on Tiv's with only positive comments against his work - have never heard a negative.
Lots done on both Griffs, always fair value and always a top job. I live in Brum and he was the only guy I would trust to change my immobiliser so I paid for him to travel up.

Had mine done by Fernies, £150 IIRC.
Great job, and an essential mod as far as i am concerned (forgetful in my old age when getting out to refuel, which seems to happen quite regularly!. No probs since installation.

Question???

What is the 'key conversion'? I understand the desire to change access to the boot but I don't understand what converting the key will do.

All in one blipper/key like a conventional eurobox key. Carl does this too. You then lose the GM head on the key.

An excellent job..I am one very happy Larry. I stayed to watch Carl work on the car and found him to be a total professional with huge knowledge and expertese on TVR alarms (and a pleasure to talk to). Delighted I had this done.

There appears to be a 3rd alternative to the key conversion. I was at Racing Green today to pick my Chimaera up after a service and noticed what looked like converted keys. Turns out that they are Tuscan keys.

Furthermore, it turns out that blanks are readily available and you simply put the electronics from your Meta key fob into the blank and get your key copied by a key-cutter, of course, and you're done.

Cost is £7.99 (inc VAT) plus the cost of the key cutting.

I have used a meta alarm combined key/alarm button from abacus alarms which works well. You need the red card 16 digit code to order and follow the programming instructions. An alternative is to fit the key to the original TVR remote.

The cheaper option is to go the TVRBob mod route (also cheap kit from some TVR outlets - I think a tenner).

The reason for my going to see Carl 'alarm guru' was that my blipper buttons were dying. It turns out that TVR in replacing the soft button with their hard logo'd one leads to wearing out the bits inside. I needed my alarm/locking module reprogrammed for replacement remote boards so went for the works with Carl - and also had the very cool remote boot release fitted at the same time!

If you just want to lose the Vauxhall key - then the mod is cheaper, but the www.tvruk.tv option will no doubt be needed in the long run.
