Now then guys and girls,

Can anyone locally help me out please?

Hot start problem still, and suffered quite badly at Blackpool on Friday.

Dont understand electics (and they scare me!) and just could do with someone who has done it having a look.

Just ordered the modwise kit, should be here at the end of the week.

cheers

Tim.

Hi, you dont actually say what the problem is so its difficult to make any suggetsions. Is the engine not turning over on the starter properly or is it just not firing up? Is it strating ok when cold / cool?

If I go for a good run (of say more than 30 minutes) and leave the car / fill up with fuel, just will not start, get the fuel pump whizzing but car will not turn over. If I lift the hood and let if cool for up to 1 hour, it starts fine. All symptoms lead to the mod wise kit sorting it out. Happened 5 times on Friday in Blackpool, along with 3 or 4 other cars.

cheers

Tim can you tell me where you got your Mod-wise kit from
as I can't seem to get their homepage up anymore? Mine has
started doing the same after a run. Turn the key and there
is a small click but nothing else until I leave it about 20
mins and then she fires right up. Dont think it's a starter
problem as when I turn the key and get the click it is not
pulling an amount of power to dim the dash lights etc.

Cheers, Col

Yes it certainly sounds like the marginal standard circuits causing the problems.

If you can to the trouble of fitting a new starter motor then doing the electrics would have been easier and you dont even get your hands dirty!

Don't discount the final part of the jigsaw, the starter 'cut' circuit on the immobiliser. Given the way in which TVR have wired the starter feed (as identified and uprated by David's kit), the gubbins in the immobiliser gets worked pretty hard and can go intermittent over time. Easy to diagnose but not for posting on a public forum.

Strange, that. With the 'hot start' problem you won't hear anything: the 'hot start' problem is that there is not enough current available to operate the solenoid, so no 'click'. However, waiting for 20 minutes and everything returning to normal does reflect the 'hot start' symptoms.

Your description would point to the solenoid operating but not closing the internal switch to apply a voltage to the motor itself. Whilst this is not the actual 'hot start' problem, it does point to a starter motor problem. In this situation, especially with a good battery, the voltage drop when the solenoid is activated may not necessarily be apparent in the dashboard lights.
