Smoking

As soon as the engine on my 4.5ltr gets warm small amounts of smoke appears from the bonnet vents.

I have checked under the car for oil leaks and all is clean but the heat proofing under the bonnet has a black patch just above the alternator.

Any ideas where or more precisely what this smoke is coming from??????????

Also check that power steering fluid resevoir isn't leaking, this caused those symptoms on mine a while back - fluid drips onto exahust iirc. Didnt loose much but did have small whisps of smoke from bonnet vents especially noticable when standing still, quite disconcerting!

leaky "U" bend on the PAS is a common one as stated...

Havent had it waxoiled lately have you ? I had some very impressive clouds of smoke just after having it done and a few wisps a day or two after.
