If the outriggers need work...
Discussion
On an early Chim that's up for sale - does that usually mean the rest of the chassis will give cause for lots of headache in the near future - or aren't things that clear-cut?
And what's roughly the cost bandwidth for welding/replacing outriggers, anyways?
I've got a sneaky feeling that at current price levels I'm best adviced to hold out for one that's completely solid in this regard anyways - but I reckon it can't hurt to ask...

It depends on how bad the chassis is. Joolz at Track Car Solutions used to be able to sleeve the outriggers, that was the esiest option.
If the chassis is in a bad state then your going to have to go the whole hog and drop the chassis from the body. Tower View will do this and replace the outriggers and give a chassis treatment for about £2k.
To be honest, unless the car is at a substantial discount I would wait until one comes along that is in better condition. Unless it has something you want on it like the exact engine trim combi.

Don't even go there. At best you will get away with the body being lifted and new outriggers welded in - at worst, new chassis.
The chassis is the number one check on these cars. I would hold out, especially if you looking for a Chim as there are lots out there and lots have been well looked after.
Waxoyl is not always a good thing either, is does protect the chassis to some degree but it also can hide a multitude of sins. I have removed all the Waxoyl from my own car, but its a pampered toy so never see's rain, so that the chassis is easy to inspect. Any sign of rust has been treated and painted with POR15.
