I have noticed there is no plug connected to the otter switch 96 car.
How do the fans work?
Both fans kick in about 80 degrees.
Curious.

Assuming you're still running the standard engine management system, you must have another otter switch somewhere. If you're using an aftermarket engine management system it's possible they're being switched by the ECU based on the coolant temp sensor.

Where is the otter switch? It was mounted in the swirl pot/header tank in earlier cars but in the radiator in later cars. Perhaps it's had a new rad fitted and an otter switch fitted to plug the tapping in the rad?

Yep, this is the standard fix for older cars these days. The new rad goes in and an otter switch is placed in the rad but not connected. The old otter swich in the swirl pot remains the operator for the fans. That said, some people swap it all around, but this might be what has happened in your case.

There is a switch in the top corner of the rad and if IIRC the previous owner had a new rad fitted.
That must be the answer.
Thanks
