Can anyone give me an idea how to wire a fan overide switch in on my Chimaera. Pre empting any cooling issues for the 26th !!! May be a good idea to be able to switch the fans on BEFORE it gets hot !!!
Cheers in advance. Steve.

I've personally never seen the point in this mod. If your cooling is working correctly then it should be switching on at the appropraite time.

If you want to keep things cooler go for a change of thermostat which switches fan on at 74 deg ie earlier than stnd 82 deg (i think). Cheap and quick to do

Have you thought about a mod-wise 2-stage cooling kit? You can set at what temp the fans come on at half speed and then go to full speed. Or failing that just short out the 2 wires connected to the otter switch with a paper clip

The wiring is very simple, there are two wires going to the otter switch. Just fit a switch in parallel to the otter switch and you're in business.

However the other posters are correct, if your cooling system is working properly you shouldn't need any mods at all. That said the mod-wise kit is excellent and provides greater control and reliability than the factory setup.

Check out the writeup on TVR Chimaera Pages for more info.

I fitted an override switch solely as I had an otter switch fail once and not turn the fans on, don't plan on using it much as it doesn't run hot, but just means i have that function without resorting to jumper connections

I Fitted an overide switch recently, Using 2 piggy back spade connectors to run an extra wire from the otter switch along the front of the engine bay, then back through into the footwell by squeezing the wires through an existing hole in the bulk head, and finally fitting a switch to the lower section of the steering column cowl, right at the front where there is space behind to allow for the switch. I also fitted an LED on the cowl to illuminate when the fan switch is on. I have not really needed it yet, because I also fitted the Leven cool running kit, but it is always there as a back up just in case the otter swich fails.
It took a couple of hours to fit and the switch and LED were sourced from Maplins for a few pound.

To be honest I did mine in a more simple way.

Find the relay in the fuse box, and attach another wire to the earth side, and then to another switch under the dash.
Earth the other side of the switch and it then duplicates the action of the otter switch.

This saves running extra wires in the engine bay and through the baulk head.
