Wiring at starter motor
Discussion
I'm just in the process of connecting up the wiring to the engine, and I can't work out how the connections to the starter go. There are a bunch of black cables right next to the starter, do these connect to the wiring post on the starter along with the big red lead from the battery and the big red lead to the 100amp fuse? Also in the vicinity there is a large black earth lead which come from an earth point on the chassis near the lower wishbone mount. I'm pretty sure this doesn't go to the starter, but where does it go? One of the sump bolts?
There are a couple of earth leads at the back of the engine at the top as well (nowhere near the starter obviously), can these conect to anywhere on the engine?
If anyone has a decent pic of the starter connections that would help enormously. I should have taken some when I stripped the engine out. :O
I did take some pic of the wiring at the alternator, but can't find 'em at the moment - so I might be posting more questions later!

Sorry just saw this, could of taken a pic for you,let me know if you still need one
You were up late! I found my pics, tucked away on one of my servers, but they are bloody awful! I'm pretty sure the starter is wired up OK now, but a pic would be nice just to confirm. A good pic of the back of the alternator and the coil/amplifier would be fantastic as the ones I took look like pictures of a black cat in a coal hole. Cheers!
Edited to add: just checked your profile, you weren't up late at all! You must be one of a very few owning TVR's in NZ!

If your looking at wiring up the coil, looking front on,you should have on the top comming from the amp I think, white with black stripe left, white right.Bottom of coil comming from god knows, white with black stripe left, white with green stipe right.
Starter motor can only be wired one way!
Youv'e probably got it fired up by now, sorry couldn't of been of more help.

That's OK mate, that'll help. She's not fired up yet - had to work yesterday 5:30 to 20:30, so too knackered to drag myself out to the garage.
If you could have a look at what connects at the back of the alternator for me, I have a thick brown which pretty obviously goes onto the main (thicker) post, another lead which is attached to a captive nut which has to go on the centre post, but the third post? I don't seem to have anything for there, but I would expect an earth.

Mine must be different,96 500,positive to main post, then a spade fit white wire pretty close(inside the protective cover, bottom left from front of car appears to have some sort of rectangle resistor/ballast block with no wire attatched, nothing on the post/s as you mentioned.
Electrics is'nt may cuppa, give me a spanner any day.
Good luck with the start up.
