I have been in touch with a "power seller" on e-bay who has offered, through his e-bay shop, an all round set of pads and grooved (not drilled) discs for £170.00 inc shipping.

Is this a good price?

Anyone dealt with mtec100 - A feedback of 3453 with 99.9% positive.

If they're decent then it's a good price. I paid £280 for a full set of grooved Black Diamond discs and fast road pads.
As said before though make sure they're a decent product and not some tat that'll leave you brakeless when it counts.

I'm sure if there were major problems with quality then they wouldn't have 99.9% positive feedback!

The adverts for other discs that he has on e-bay at the moment say " We can supply drilled and grooved, grooved only, or drilled only, all at the same price!Special Offer! Purchase a 2nd set of discs & pay no extra for the postage! If your fitment is not listed, check our other items and our shop.Or you can email us at mtec100@yahoo.co.uk
They are made by Motorsport Tuning & Engineering Company"

The pads appearing in the pictures appear to be Mintex.

I think somebody posted something a short while ago saying that they were basically standard discs (lockhead or something ?) that had been machined to put grooves in them. Still seems a reasonable price though.........

I've got them, from that seller, front and back discs.

They are AP racing or similar plain discs, that they themselves machine (drilled, grooved or both depending on what you ask for - I've got D&G)

They are good quality and a marked improvement over standard.

Any engineers out there give an opinion on the machining of the finished discs? Are they hardened or treated in any way by the manufacturerr and will the after sales grooving likely cause any problems?

If you think about it, all drilled and grooved discs are made this way.

I'm not aware of any company that actually casts the discs with drilling and grooving, so what's the difference between the manufacturer and an aftermarket company doing the same job? Any heat treatment etc would already have been carried out before the machining.

If you're asking will they warp if you drive them hard before they're bedded in, then the answer is probably - as it would be for any other disc on the market.

Just be cheaper to replace if you bought these ones

Justin, I just want to make sure that the way they have been modded, assuming it is done properly, will not have affected the integrity of the discs.

I don't think it will but then again I am not in the engineering business.

I like to think that whilst I am happy to save money I would rather not put my life at risk in a fast car by compromising on the quality of the brake. Having said that i don't drive it like a loones. Spirited maybe but not looney tunes country

What sort of mileage have you done since you fitted yours?

I and some of my friends have dealt with Mtec - so far their products seem to be very good and competitively priced - they are based in Londonderry in Northern Ireland.

Years ago when my finances dictated my budget for parts, I fitted a very cheap set of brake pads to the front of my car. They were less than half the cost of other recognised brands. After a few weeks under braking the friction part of the pad actually separated from the backing plate causing the pedal to go straight to the floor and total loss of brake. Fortunately, managed to stop without incident.

I am not saying these items on ebay are of inferior quality, but it may be wise to investigate their origins to satisfy yourself that they are up to the job, especially with such a critical item.

AP cast the holes in to the disc as do many of the other leading manufacturers. Most aftermarket disc are drilled, which can sometimes (rarely) lead to problems.

Thanks Peter, that's exactly what I am trying to do by asking if anyone has any experience of the supplier and the product.

I got the drilled and grooved front and rear sets from MTec100 on Ebay over a year ago now and done 9 track days along with 8 to 9,000 miles on them.

No Problems with them and I drive hard, the brakes out last Tuscan & Cerbera brakes on track. Impressed all who have been in the car on track with the brakes. Got mine when they only cost £150 and that was also delivery included.

Get set up and great price.

For the engineers on here, all car brakes have to be made to a the same or better standard than that set out by the designer and car maker, so aftermarket bits have to be made to that standard. MTec's are good quality gear, and can state that after having done this amount of miles and track time.
