Had a new radiator core fitted last week and now the temp doesnt go over 55 - 60 on my 9 mile run through the lanes to the station. Before temp used to rise to 70 - 80. Fans cut in as normal, if I leave ticking over when I get to the carpark.
Doesnt seem to get up to temp from cold - could this be the thermostat?
I'm going to drop it back to Walldenway tomorrow for them to check for airlocks etc. Just wondered if anyone else has had similar issues after fitting a new core.

It could well be the thermostat. It looks like the original radiator was not nearly as efficient as it might have been. Perhaps this had caused an overheating problem in the past that was 'rectified' by removing the old 'stat or drilling holes in it.
Two versions are generally available, one opening at 74°C, the other at 82°C. Both are the same size as the Land Rover part but with a bigger aperture. You should have no trouble buying one from a TVR dealer or specialist.
To check it, start the car from cold and feel the top hose. It should stay fairly cool until the 'stat opens then become much hotter much quicker. If it steadily rises to temperature from start-up it isn't working properly. Or may even have been removed!

Hi,
I'm in Kent too.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the re core & where was it done?

Walldenway (Larkfield) did the job £400 all in. The core was £300 ish inc vat so didnt think it was too bad. Just come back from there as wanted it checked due to orig post. All ok, just a dodgy connection on the temp guage sender.
They now do all the servicing etc on my Chim and I find Paul great. Not the cheapest, but nothing is ever too much trouble. Judging by all the other TVRs there this morning, I'm not alone! (2 chims, 2 Cerberas, a Griff and a couple of Tuscans - Anyone on here?)
