Hi chaps,i am trying to decide what to spend my 'hard earned', on next and am looking at having a 'Stealth cam' fitted or go for a stage three or four head job, as there isn't a great deal written about the state of tune/engineering in the bible i wondered what the encyclopedia of knowledge that is pistonheads would come forward with!

The cam will be an expensive option - needs the whole engine dismantled.... and not sure how much it will give you being as the existing cam is pretty good and obviously already meant for performance.

When I had mine tuned I was advised to spend any money on air intake (Jag V12 box and carbon plenums etc.) if I wanted more performance.. Have you already done that?

My best piece of advice is to call V8 Developments. Very few know more than them about the RV8.

Go for the cam and some other bits and pieces, the heads on the 500 are about as good as they get.

I spoke to V8Developments a while back. The stealth cam sounds like a rel belter. The H404 is great for top end power so it is said, but makes the car EVEN MORE snatchy at low revs. A chap I spoke with eventually removed the 404 cos it was awful in traffic - but awesome for track days. I'm told the Stealth is much better than a standard cam throughout the range. It's on my wish list!

Don't think that the 'whole engine' needs to be dismantled to change cam.

Cam can be changed with the engine in situ!

Right Stealth cam and better breathing it is! Rob (V8 developments) advised me to check the cam as it is C40,000 miles but to look at the breathing options for this engine eg triple plenum, wider inlets etc ,thanks for the guidance!

Will do, it feels really strong even at the moment, and the induction roar is sounds evil

Hello chaps , yes i was thinking of the stealth cam, tripple plemium from ACT, and possible a 5.2 conversion to beef the bottom end up. I would be interested in what the cams and the ACT stuff give in terms of bhp and torque increases. Also is it worth fitting the heads from wild cat or rpi engineering big valve head or is the 500 head good enough ?

Can only speak for the research that I did, Wildcat set looks to be the business, but the money put me off (I think when I looked the heads, inlet/exhaust manifold where around th £3k) so in the end I went for Big valve heads, stealth cam from V8D, balanced and lightened bottom end roller rockers, ceramic coated exhaust manifolds, seperate throttle bodies (8) and an Autronic ecu. As I said the final set up this week so have no real idea what power I have.

I would ask Rob Robertson about some nice heads,he does some fabulous stage 4/5 ones. The wildcat heads do look good, but they cost a lot,and you cant use the original inlet manifold(these two things put me off).If your looking at plenums, then consider the John Eales tripple plenum,it is significantly cheaper than a carbon fibre ACT one,and having seen both,i personally think its much better quality. It's what i'll be fitting in the new year

Thats fabulous Markthumbup. What will you do about the air filter thoughscratchchin. The only reason i've not looked in to throttle bodies,is because i don't want to spoil the lines of the car by altering the bonnett for the air filter.

Thanks, I know what you mean, I do have seperate 'sock filters' but am working on an airbox (similar to a cerbera)with twin cold air feeds from the front, I have seen a Chimaera with TB's and similar set up, as i do not want an external body mods

Hi Mike .. you don't even need to go that far, i have had a RV8 on my dyno make 350bhp on a std plenum just with a larger butterly in there (engine built by Jamie at castle race engines) , so big hp can be done without expensive induction, though i agree the JE alloy version is a lovely looking piece of kit, no idea why it's not used more often.
