This morning I was just about to take my purple monster into Bath to have a new windscreen fitted, so before I left, I thought I would give it a quick wash down. When I started to chamois the thing off, I noticed that hundreds of pimples have come up all over the tops of the front wings, bonnet and head lamp housings.

I have left my car outside for a nearly a month now as my garage has been taken up with a kitchen and other DIY projects .

What are the pimples? Where have they come from?. I haven’t had time to completely examine it, but it looks like its defiantly part of the paint that has risen, rather than something on top of the paint.

The front end has had a blow over in the past by on of the previous owners, but I have had it now for six months. I washed the car a fortnight ago and the pimples were not there then.

I am tearing my hear out with rage…. A front end respray was not what I had planed for a Christmas present.

I wonder if the builders next door replacing a roof have let something go in the air, although it’s strange that its only on the front, and on the tops. Look a dusting of rain when you stand back, or fine spray form a hose pipe.

Grrrrrrrrrrr

There was some talk a few years ago (yes, I have been around that long!) about moisture in the glass fibre causing pimples to appear on the paintwork. This usually happens because the glass fibre has not been allowed to cure properly before the paint has been applied.

I could be talking complete bollox though!

Have you covered the car with a water proof cover recently.
If the cover is not fully breathable this can cause pimples in the paint work if
the cover was put on when the car is wet.
You have my simpathy.
Cheers
Paul.

I was told by the local dealer at the time's bodyshop, that they are microblisters in the paint caused by moisture in the fibreglass being drawn to the surface when a car is being exposed to extremes of temperture when sitting around/parked up. i.e sitting in sunlight then a cold night. He said that they might recede in time.

Well.... i had just done 5 or 6 miles and then hosed it before washing gently with luke warm water. It was quite mild thismorning. It has only happened on the front, which maked me feel that there is a flaw in the paint from a respay by a past owner.

It could be silicone contamination on the vehicle before the respray. A lot of cleaning products and waxes have silicone in them and if the car isn't immaculately clean when it is resprayed then over time with temperature or humidity the areas can blister!

I would find out who did the front end respray then see if they'll remedy the problem.

i have found in the past with microblisters, that each painter as hes own opinion of what causes the problem(moisture in airline, poor materials etc)but in all due respect, they often just shrug there shoulders and say they cant be certain what caused the fault,if its any help i had a ford years ago that had a bare metal respray, and after about 12 months i had a small rash (size of a penny)on the roof(no it was not corrosion)a single skin panel, nothing there before, this fault got no worse in the time i kept the car 4 years approx.painters & owners nightmare methinks.

I am clutching at straws here, but I am wondering if I put it back in the garage with a dehumidifier, it may get better.
