My new GAZ shocks arrived today, very nice they look too. Anyone here using them? If so, what is the best settings and ride hight to use for fast road use?

Hi,

I run my Chimaera on Gaz Gold, I set them up after speaking with Derek, best speak with him, he will tell you best starting point according to the latest spec, then adjust height etc to what you feel happy with..

Hi

I've got Gaz shocks on mine and according to Derek a good starting point for road use is 25 clicks from soft at the back,15 at the front.Try that, then adjust to suit.

Hi
We have slightly changed the valving recently and I would start at 18 clicks from soft on the rear and 12 clicks from soft on the front.
These are only starting points because styles of driving vary considerably, you may wish to go up 4 clicks all round for fast road and 8 clicks for track days.
On the ride height, set up the shocks at 30mm from the underside of the spring seat to the last thread on the front and 40mm on the rear, take the car for a nice brisk run to settle the springs and I then measure each end of the outrigger to the ground and I aim for 145mm front and 155mm rear.
You shouldn't have too much problem with spring sinkage now because we are now supplying pre-stressed springs but recheck ride height in a weeks time.

Please, please, please, get the car 4 wheel aligned as soon as the springs have settled down, you will notice the difference.
If you don't use a TVR specialist for alignment, call me for data.

And the question someone is going to ask (so it might as well be me ) is how much does a set cost?

I fitted Gaz shocks to my S and found them superb. Rebound and dampening adjustment is straight forwards, as long as the knobs havnt siezed due to corrosion, copper slip round the shafts helps prevent this. Height adjustment is time consuming as the car needs to be raised so that the adjustable seat can be screwed up or down. If lowering care must be taken that when the shock is at full extension that the spring isnt loose between the upper and lower seats, if this is the case then a helper spring may be necessary to maaintain proper spring location. There are some needle roller bearings available from Demon Tweeks that fit below the spring to lallow adjustment without raising the car but they arent cheap IIRC.

I take your point that you can drop the spring seat to the level that the spring will rattle in full droop but IMHO this would mean lowering the car past the effective roll centres and I would urge ride heights of no less than 135/145 front and rear of outrigger to ground and that means a small amount of preload to the spring.
