Tickity Booooo!
Discussion
Finally got around to binning the god-awful standard stero on my Chim and am now fully modernised - Infinity speakers all round, decent Pioneer head unit and iPod bus (routed to the little cubby hole by my left shoulder so the blowers don't cook the iPod in winter) and a mod-wise aerial kit too. Sounds fantastic, but... I'm getting a ticking noise that rises and falls with the revs, when listening to the radio - but only on the radio. I've fitted a noise suppressor on the power supply to the head unit, but this hasn't cured it. Some sort of problem with the aerial, do you think? Bad earth maybe? Or does the power supply to the aerial need a suppressor too?

Have you checked the arial bit which is/was threaded through the rear panel, as when I had mine done this wasn't properly shielded (led to a s***e radio reception.)
It's not interference in the sense of crap radio reception, because it's rising and falling with engine revs. Think it's definitely linked to the ignition system.

Have you tried re-routing the HT leads away from any low voltage wiring.
I had a similar problem after fitting new HT leads. Moved them around a bit and
kept them away from alternator wiring hay presto noise went away.
You could also have a dodgy HT lead or earth wire.
Cheers

Not yet - it has new HT leads (and plug extensions) but pretty sure it did this on the old ones too... although I've followed the same route as the previous leads...

Sounds like interference from the HT leads. Open the bonnet in the dark and check that there are no blue sparks grounding to any metal parts in the engine bay. Also do you still have the resistive HT lead cap things on? They are there to stop this kind of interference. Ultimately you will always struggle a bit in a fibreglass car.

It's got new leads and caps within the last couple of hundred miles - but the problem was there on the old leads (it didn't have the caps before, they're a new addition).
