Hi,

I went on hols for a week and left the Chim in a garage but when I came to drive it again I have serious problems selecting first and second. If I push to the left to engage 1st it feels like there is a barrier stopping me from doing so. I can just about engage 1st and 2nd if I push but this is not normal. All the other gears are fine and the car drives fine.

It's a '97 4.5.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Bevan.

Can you select reverse without any sound effects?

That sounds like my Griff when the gear selector bush had disappeared. Are the other gears a bit 'vague' ?

Its a bit of a faff to check but I've got a couple of pics which will help and I'm pretty sure I can talk you through it.

Have a look at this thread

Not that it fixes your fault, but at least you can see what makes up the linkage.

Check for leaks under the car and in the driver's footwell. Has the clutch biting point gone to nearer the end of the pedal travel? These symptoms would occur if the reservoir was low on clutch fluid.

I had the exact symptoms - resulting from loss of clutch fluid.
