The n/s/r disk brake makes a squeaking noise that increases frequency with speed, yet stops when the brakes are applied.

Is this simply a sticking calliper or does the disk itself need looking at.

If so I presume Quik-Fit and the like can sort these - they are Sierra/Granada disks after all

I had the same, to be honest no amount of cleaning or anything seemed to make a difference. Was just before I needed to replace the disks as the fronts were worn, once the new set was on there was no more squeeking.

Not suggesting you replace them because of this but I found it odd.

scratchchin Near side rear by any chance?

>> So I read all your post, it is NSR. Wonder if there is something there that isn't on the other side?

Sounds like one of the pads is stuck to the caliper or a slightly over adjusted or sticking handbrake cable.
You will need to jack it up and see how freely the wheel turns(wont spin as you are acting against a diff)should turn without too much force.Remove the pads and clean, clean the caliper slides etc check all is free and clean the edge of the disc-break off rust(outer curc.)
If you have a caliper tool push the piston back to ensure free movement.
Where you unbolt the caliper from the caliper carrier(2x 13mm headed bolts)Do the slides move freely there(inside the little rubber bellows)

No idea mate, but tried everything blackspider said to no avail.

To quote a phrase I first heard here about 3 years ago "Have you got a Nissan Micra stuck in there?"

Take a sheet of emery cloth and put it on a flat surface-rub the pad surface over the cloth to take the glaze off, maybe take it down .5 mm,Then go around the pad surface edge and just slightly round it off.

if the brake disc is running out of true, mounted on dirty or rusty hub this can cause brake squeal,a common complaint on volvo,s & VW,s with rear disc brakes also.failing that i agree with Blackspider for he,s tips.I wouldent trust Kwikf*ck to fit a light bulb....and beleive me i have seen enough of there cock/ups to last a lifetime.use an independant garage if you have to(recommended preferred).failing that change your brand of brake pads, sometimes a quick fix.

If you're doing that make sure you use garnet paper not ordinary aluminium oxide paper, otherwise you'll contaminate the disc.
