hi new member to piston heads here !, wondering if anyone can help with a chim front screen, either where to buy cheap, or an alternative parts number or some clever idea to prevent me having to pay £500.00 (autoglass quote), I have bought my chim with a front end dent and a cracked screen fron a salvage company, got a new front end from Bell Hill in Bristol who were superb, but can't find a clever way to get hold of of a screen, any help much appreciated.

I just saw your post in general gassing and thought I might be able to help.

There is a person with the nickname 'Heal and Toe' who posts in this section that I know. He owns a Chim and had a damaged windscreen through stone damage, it was replaced via his insurance for £50 and it doesn't affect your no claims bonus. Check out your policy as most policies have some sort of glass cover that should apply.

Did you say it happened after you bought and insured it....?

Surprised that autoglass gave a silly quote. did they know that it wasnt an ins job. They will often give the customer a v high price but only charge the ins company a fraction. This of course makes the customer think his insurers are the mutts nutts and be happy to pay his premium. Screens are pretty cheap but as said insist on gen tvr one as copies are poor. I have had 2 new screens, on chim and tuscan, both fitted by autoglass(Lincoln) and been pleased with both. Would think most dealers would get likes of autoglass to change screens anyway.
Best to let your insurers pay tho
