Strong burning odour....
Discussion
Fire up the Chimaera this morning for the first time in a while - the Mrs has been using it. Strong burning smell after a few hundred yards. So I turn around, pop it back in the garage and take a look. Burning smell dissipates - I can't see anything smouldering in there...so I get the Porsche keys and go to work in that.
So this weekend I should obviously have a good old look around and see if I can spot the problem. The smell wasn't plasticky...
..any thoughts from the PH Chimaera Collective?

Hi Mark!
From the front I think. I don't think the handbrake is stuck on - seems to brake in a straight line, no problem moving the car. I got a whiff in the cabin as I was going along which persuaded me to return the car to the garage...so it should be from the front? Popped the engine compartment - no rising smoke trails from in there or anything, though...
Could leaves or something get stuck up against hot exhaust?

Mine reeks of burning at this time of year, and as it's parked outside it was fairly easy to spot the rapidly charring leaves on the manifolds.... accompanied by the odd wisp of smoke!
I couldn't actually see anything upon opening the engine compartment. I need to take a look underneath...

Given the new info I'd go with leaves. But. Garaged isnt it Don? So surely the leaves would have been in there when you parked it and noticed the smell then?
Now I'm thinking back to it I might have caught a slight whiff when I last put it away...and I do drive it into a tree lined car park at work. So leaves could be a plausible explanation. Its just that I couldn't see any when I opened her up. Where would the damn things "hide" underneath the car?
Mine did the same Don, I hadn't driven it for about 3 weeks or so, and is parked outside under a decent half cover.
It honked of burning, I gave it some beans, and 30 miles later after a rapid motorway journey it had cleared.
Lovely job.
Must hasten to add that it is not far away from a row of trees that had shed their leaves - I guessed it was something that had blown under as it wasn't an oily / petrol / chemical smell.
Go and give it some large beans don, should sort it out.

I had a "big fuse" work loose in the passenger footwell. The power was arcing & heating up the plastic cover. This too caused a coming & going burning smell. (I finally found out what it was when the fuse eventually went, and I broke down on a roundabout on Nottingham's ring road in peak traffic)
Don dont want to scare you but dripping coolant on exhaust downpipe stinks to high heaven but burns quickly so you dont always get smoke or steam but the smell does linger,i come across this one quite a bit in the workshop, generally an all makes problem not just TVR,but worth checking, weeping hoses fittings etc.good luck.
