Is is possible to route a wire from high in the footwell behind the dashboard to the space in front of the radiator, without going through the bulkhead into the engine bay?

Yes. If you take the top of the dash off, there's a hole on the left that leads down the top of the wing and comes out behind the lights. Lots of wires down there already.
I routed some headlight earth wires down straight from the battery.

Cheers for the quick reply, Adrian.

Hmm, I have the dash top off, as the panels are being re-veneered. I've been poking about in the hole you mention, but so far all I've found is the top of the heater box. Must keep trying...

You should be able to see where most of the loom disappers into the wing about level with the top of the door (bottom of window). Its easier to pull through if you can remove the side repeater I found - still need to be a trick ladies doctor tho.

There is a grommet on the inner wing where the wiper motor harness is passed - but this is prone to leaks, if you want to go to the front of the car over the wheel arch in the wing is the better way.

If you route it down the drivers side you can gain access by taking off the cover for the clutch resovoir. By using a flexible stiff cable (ie throttle cable) and feeding it back into the car you could tie your wire to it and then pull it back out, the cable can then be fed to the front and pulled through. Hope the explanation helps.

You do know that laser blinders have questionable legality, don't you? hehe
