Have recently bought a Chimaera and needed some top up oil. Found this site that seems to be alot cheaper than anywhere else and thought I'd share it with you all.

The grade offered (fully synth) isn't really suitable for RV8s though IMO.

0/40 not really amy good for the ROVER, to light(very thin),better suited to something more modern 16 valve screamer etc,as Slacey said.5/50 mobile now thats ok,

Mine has got the Mobile super 10w 40 in it. It was recently serviced at Henleys and thats what they put in it. I think its what Castle use as well, but am not 100% sure.

Mobil 1 now comes in 5 litre containers, rather than the old 4 litre ones.Make sure you use the 15W50 Motorsport fully synthetic version ,NOT the 0W40 grade.

I had my Chimaera serviced at my local main dealer recently as I was working in London and they were the only people willing to take the car in on a Saturday and keep it until the following Saturday.

They put Mobil 1 0w-40 in as that's what TVR originally specified, although prior to that I'd been running Castrol GTX Magatec 15W-40 as advocated by Dave Batty.

In fairness though they did apologise for not checking my preference and said that next time I could just specify the oil I wanted (eg. Mobil Motorsport) and they'd use that instead.

Edit: However, if you do want Mobil 1 0W-40 then CostCo sell it. It was around £26 for 4 litres last time I looked although that wasn't that recently.

My Chim ran on 0w40 Mobil 1 from 'birth' until 47k miles where it went to 5w40. Barely uses a drop and everything works fine and dandy...
I'm not suggesting everyone should use it but for me its been just fine..

100%, but I would make sure the oil pressure relief spring hasnt been "upgraded" by some numpty or you will possibly blow the rear oil seal and lose some of the amber nectar. Dont seem to like extended 60+psi :-( ~ the only valid argument I could see from the "its an old engine designed for 10/40 mineral" brigade

My 95 4.0 Chim has always had Mobil-1 Fully Synth 10w40 in it.
But Mobil do not do this in the UK anymore.
I top up with Mobil-1 Fully Synth 15w50 Motorsport, Fernhurst told me "DO NOT use 0w40"

I have spoken to Comma oils people who distribute Mobil, they recommended using the Mobil Super XHP 10w40, or the Comma Motorsport 5w50 Fully syntyh.

Mobil Super IS NOT A FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL thats why it's cheep.

it's almost half the price of mobil-1 because it's a standard mineral oil.
see link to mobil website.

Hope this helps
