OK, I'm back, all was going well with my brake job, got the calipers off, cleaned everything up, new groved and drilled disks ready to go on, and.... Pads are different!

I bought standard Mintex 1175 and they are smaller than the pads I took off. If you look at page 173 of The Bible the pad difference is exactly as shown, the pads that came with the disks look like the 240mm pads shown.

I'm thinking of sending the pads back and getting the new Mintex Xtreme, of just go to Halfords and get some standard Ferodo's.

I want to get them quickly so any advice on what to get and where to get them much appriciated!

Thanks again!!!

Drilled discs? Oh dear.

You do need the larger pads for the 260mm disc setup. Make sure you get some decent fast road pads not ordinary off the shelf junk.

Steve! I've read loads of your posts, thanks for replying. A couple things.

1) Pads, ok I got the wrong pads and even if they were right (size) you and others have convinced me to get fast road pads. Steve Heath says (on p.161 of the bible, and we know he does hillclimbs and track days) "Many owners fit these (fast road pads)... I use the standard pads and have found no reason to change" I want to put my brakes back together so I'm thinking of sticking some Ferodo road pads I picked up at Halfords (clearance, £7.99) and then getting some good pads later if these don't work out. I know even reading what I just wrote sounds daft but I need to get the car together, for £7.99 even if I get better pads in a week...

2) Disks, So, As soon as you wrote drilled and frown face I remembered a conversation I had with the guys in West Yorks that TVR Bob pointed me to who said drilled can cause cracking, better to have dimpled. But he couldn't get me any for several weeks. Thing is, even this afetrnoon as I did a walk through Winchester with my family, so many cars, Porsches etc have drilled disks. I did 3 track days in 2006 and hope to do several more in '07 but I don't race, most of my time is cruising. Is this likley to be a real :-( ?

On the other hand, time is a bigger problem than $ maybe I should be patient and do things right?

Thanks for your feedback

Best regards,

Jack

I have just put new drilled discs on the front of my chim and the difference is simply stunning ! I dont care if they cost me a few quid extra in time .....they sure as hell stop the car, also without any shaking steering wheel !

Have a look at this.
I have grooved & semi drilled discs on mine with Green stuff pads. Much much better than the originals
