What don't you understand about undoing the two bolts at the back that retain it, freeing the handbrake cable to get the lever vertical and lifting up and over?

for what its worth, I managed to slip the console over the handbrake without slackening it off. Just put the handbrake on quite hard. If you need to free the console a bit more, there are a couple of self tapping screws either side at the front (about level with your knees when you are driving). Also you may find that the door release knob is bolted into the fibre galss beneath the console, but that its cables then run through a recess in the console, meaning that the console is effectively strung on to these cables. Can be a bit of a pain in the arse.

Under the little tray at the back. you need to remove the bottom of it, should not be glued in but may need a little careful persuasion with a screwdriver or the like. There will be two screws underneath that and two at the front, one either side, about where your knees would be.
cheers

There appears to be a different fixing for the early chimp consoles mine is a 93 model with the door opening knob in the same recess as the handbrake & gear lever. The fixing is under the base of the little tray at the back as last reply said, mine is on velcro. remove those two screws & pull console back.
I believe the later type has two bolts behind the seats, in pockets ? I am not sure.

That I can understand. What year is the car? It is possible that you have one without the bolts!

Mick mmmmm, what year is yours? I have a 94 and have removed my console several times. I believe some earlier ones have the door cables running in a chanel on the underside - this makes it awkward. I thought they all had the two large self-tappers under the tray at the rear and two small ones either side at the front of the "ears". Be careful of the wires going to the window switches - these are permanent live!

Good luck.
