Hi All
I am new to all this and new to tvr ownership!
i bought a 97 chim about a month ago, (yes yes the faster blue one!!) but taking off the hood over the weekend i managed to split the rear plastic screen!! any advice on where to get it done locally. I live in Gloucester and work in Bristol. also has anyone claimed off their insurance for this?

Welcome wavey

Bit late now, but it helps to warm the screen before lowering.

I'm told the Chimp boys often make us of the hairdryer they carry for the mobile business

Or, in the cold, cover the rear screen with a Griff owners chest-hair wig.

Welcome aboard. Sorry about your mishap. Very annoying.

It's worth giving you insurer a call under the 'windcreen / glass cover' clause. Some policies will cover you with only the £50 quid excess applying. Depends on your insurer. I know of two people who sorted it this way. In the summer my mate had his MX5's rear window slashed and although it took a bit of talking round, they covered him. Much better than the 300 quid he was quoted for a new one.
Good luck!

Hi all.
Thanks for the comments...
you were all right. I was showing a friend how the top came down, and heard it go! only about 2 inches long but it's there! it was cold though. i should of used the chest wig trick!!
I will phone my insurance tommorow and see if i am covered.
Thanks

Andy, a couple of months ago I too had a 2-3" split on the off-side edge of the rear screen (just through wear & tear, as I think it's the original).

I bought a roll of specialist tape from Halfords as a stop gap. I applied it to the outside only- and it's there still as it remains waterproof and very adhesive.
I forget the actual name of the product (Halfords own?) but it's light green in colour- the same as my car

Had the same happen on my old chim, had a slight crack at the very edge, as a temp measure i used a clear hot glue stick, filled the crack and it flexed too till i got it fixed.
In reply to one persons post dont ever use duck tape. i also had the stitching come away once and nearly used the stuff till i could get it re stitched until my mate who works at tvr told me not to, it eats into the screen and it damages it beyong repair!
