Anyone know what the cost of fitting PAS might be, I have an injured arm and my Chim has not got PAS and it is making it difficult for me to enjoy it now!

I think I saw some info on this using the electric system from the Vauxhaull Corsa. No need for new plumbing or PAS rack.
Search on ebay to have a look at the parts. You also need a black box, also from ebay, to adjust the level of assistance as it's a variable system.

The other way is to get the full kit from a crashed car. The pump, reservoir, pipes and rack are about £650.
Or you can get the power rack and then put a pump from say, a Saxo in. Then you don't have to worry about the fluid boiling.
Not sure about the Corsa route, but you will need the power rack in any case as its special to TVR.

The PAS steering rack on the chim is 2 turns lock to lock as opposed to 2.2 on an unassisted car. Racks are expensive as they are bespoke TVR items. Maybe you could get one from a specialist breaker like Belhill garage? Still going to cost you in labour though.

The whole point of the Corsa electro unit is that it does not require a pump or new rack. All of the gubbins is up at the steering wheel end.
That said If you are not able to do it yourself I doubt it's a cost effective option.
Std TVR bits from a wreck may be best option in you case as any TVR garage should be able to give you a firm price to swap the bits over.

Elec p/s is a fantastic piece of kit
All you need with the above is a variable speed control unit (variable speed control box) aswell as the necessary fabricated mounting brackets.
Once fitted you can adjust your steering sensitivity to driver requirements
Either have your steering set for one finger input (light as a feather) or full force (non assisted) aswell as anywhere in between.

Many thanks for your help all, would a company like Horizon fit it for me if I buy the Corsa option?

I had PAS fitted to my 97 Chim 500 by Ian @ Sportmotive, Stoke on Trent, 1st class service, think it cost around £1400.00, Ian supplied all the parts including recond rack.

Thanks for that, not seen that before. It could prove to be a good option as the power racks are quite rare.

The Corsa electric PAS looks a great solution for me. Has anyone actually fitted one of these to a Chim? I'd like to know how much adaption is required ? It looks like the steering tilt facility (for what it's worth) would disappear so may need to adjust that for a start.

i have a pump with mounting bracket and resovior if you need one,to fit electric you need to have very stiff column support (not there strong point) and they do not work that well, they are a compromise i know people use them but they do not respond as well as fluid type, tinker-27taylor@blueyonder.co.uk

Have a good long chap with Mike (Mark 1, not the younger ginger Mike Mk2) and he'll give you plenty of ideas for PAS options, and yes, I'm sure he'd tackle the Corsa kit for you.
