Hi.
i have been looking on ebay and seen a Cat D chim that has had some fire damage. The ad says that it was registered Cat D. Reading about on PH someone said fire damage is Cat F. Should i be careful.
What are your thoughts on buying a Cat D car?
I understand resale values are lower. Is insurance higher?

Thanks

My Chim was cat D...and i dont pay anymore for my insurance.

To be honest i have never heard of cat f.
Fire damage could make a car B or C depending on the ferocity of the fire!!!

If it is cheap enough go for it.

How come you are thinking of resale value when you havent even bought it????!!!!!

As long as it's been inspected and looks solid I can't see why it would be a bad buy. If you are concerned put a thread out asking if a knowledgeable owner in your area would come have a look at it with you.

Rule of thumb - Cat D is 20% under market value. Presuming it has all been repaired to proper standard.

Insurance categories here

Cat D = Repairable but insurers couldn't be bothered or their preferred body shop was too busy.

I bought an accident damaged 'cat D' Mondeo some years ago. Bought it as it was immediately post accident, had it repaired, drove it 99,000 miles over the next five years with no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.
