OK - Heads Up for those who asked me on the other thread - Just got the car insured for the Super-charger modification, here's the details:

Insurers: A-Plan Ins.
Car: TVR Chimaera 4.0L Super Charged to 275bhp (at the wheels)
Policy Cover: Fully Comp for Me & My Wife (She is policy holder, I'm a named driver)
Other Cover: Drive any other car with the owners permission
Policyholders age: Wife & Me in mid 40's
Overnight location of car: Garaged
Area of residence: Village in West Sussex

Excess: £250 Accidental damage, Fire & Theft
Mileage restriction: 8,000 miles per annum

Full No Claims discount

£429.00

I'm happy...and thats an understatement! If the cheapest I could have got it for was say £1,800+ pa it would have
scuppered the whole job and I wouldn't have gone ahead with it.

Tesco, my current insurers were not interested and the same cover for the Chim (as standard) was costing me £398 pa with them. So for an extra £31 per annum the supercharger conversion is covered!

NOW IT'S ALL SYSTEMS GO - FULL STEAM AHEAD! Roll on Saturday!

Many thanks "Wicker Man" for the tip-off and all the others with their advice - this was the cheapest of the quotes I got

Bet all those who thought there was no chance in even getting insured are eating a little humble pie. That price is amazing.

Begs the question, what other changes can you make with the left over cash..

Well that’s fantastic. In light of some of the posts on the other thread, I was expecting you would be somewhere over £1,000. You must be well chuffed.

Thats excellent

Probably not important but if your wife is the policy holder presume it is just her covered to drive other peoples cars with owners permission

I just mention it as when I transferred my own policy (with the full NCD) to my wife many years ago when I got a company car I found I wasn't then covered to drive my sons car on that policy and had to be a named driver on his car

Nope - I specifically asked if both my wife (the policyholder) and ME (named driver) could drive other peoples cars with their permission as it was important to me that I could drive both my Son & Daughters cars should the need arise.

I was reassured that "Yes" I too was covered to drive other peoples cars.

Beggining to think i should have done this! Had 5 shortlisted options for my 4.0:

1) general power mods to improve breathing on 4.0
2) sell 4.0 buy 5.0
3) Supercharge
4) 4.6
5) change engine for 5.0

Think these are in order of expense too. Why did i do number 5???? Doh.

Power is a funny thing. Is there ever a limit? Always want more!! But i suppose this is only on the duel/motorway. More than enough power in a 5.0 to have extreme lazy fun in 3rd gear on the country lanes. Had to use 2nd coming out of corners in the 4.0!!
