Cam wear in flat tappet engines(i.e. no rollers) is thought to be related to lower alkyl zinc levels in modern engine oil (reduced to promote longer catalyser life). This is well documented in the USA where a increase in this problem has been noted, and may contribute to cam wear problems in the TVR V8.
Diesel oils still have higher zinc/phosphate levels and may afford better shear protection needed to preserve the cam, and are being recommended for older v8's.
Anybody brave enough to try this here?

Interesting point , I try and use molyslip ,as it must work to a point as the difference in a gearbox when it is used is very noticeable especially from cold .

Rum runner,

Can I ask what difference molyslip has made in your gearbox. I ask because I've seen some stuff called Activ8, which is a similar thing and I was umming and ahhing about trying some.

Many thanks,

Stevechim, my brother in law is a yank V8 nut AND AS BEEN FOR LONGER THAN I CAN REMEMBER,was previously a santa pod street racing champion (you know ford pops with big block chevys LS7)and swears by diesel motor oil 15/40 in pushrod V8s he allways slated the use of racing oils/synthetics in sixties V8s,bearing in mind diesel motor oil far exeeds what oils were available in there day,but he did insist on regular oil changes especially using nitrous(lots of blowby). The way i see it most are recommended in turbo diesels that says it all really, they also tend to have good detergent packages also(good at keeping the tappets gum free),unless anyone else says different.although i will say i use synthetic 5/40 in my chim but thats just my opinion, but i do agree with what he says. The trick with whatever motor oil you use is regular oil changes & and respect for the engine during warm up.
