Hi guys

When at low speed, i mean at 10mph there seems to be a kluncking and rattling sound comming from the back and the will not pull away smoothly, there is no play in the prop joints or wheel bearings, could this be a diff problem? is there a place in southend on sea or a surrounding area then can modify the exhaust to sound better. Cheers!!!

Could be that the diff mounting bolts have come loose & the clunk is the diff rocking in its carrier.

Hi Richard
If you need new bushes on the diff mount you can now get the same tougher rubber as the top mount on the two lower mounts.
I let TVR Power in Coventry do all the work on mine and I'm a fellow Sarfenda!
As for the exhaust you can remove the pre-cats in the manifolds for a better sound but doesn't make a huge difference.
Other options include having solid pipes welded inside the silencer for a huge sound but you may struggle with track day noise regs, assuming you going to do any. There is also the cherry bomb conversion, do a search on this for more info.

Could be the Diff bushes - had similar on mine last year. If it's the 2 front bushes it's a cheap replacement. Price goes up a fair bit though if the top mount also needs doing as it's a PITA to get at. Had all mine replaced with Poly bushes which are much longer lasting and the same price as the originals.

Hmmm, I wouldn't assume it's the bushes - I had a similar problem and it turned out that it was the diff that needed refurbing and the bushes were OK. Get it checked by a professional to be sure.

worth getting checked out. When mine lunched itself it locked on the hard shoulder when I was stationary. Has it locked at motorway speed then it could have been interesting....

Richard,as the others have said, just keep in mind the diffs are not trouble free, especially the GKN ones.

I got told refurb of existing diff was about £300 excluding removal & refitting. I got a refurbed unit for just over £400 as mine couldn't be fixed.

I paid £400 for a full rebuild of my GKN diff, and the work is warrantied. I was offered a S/H one with no guarantee for £425 from a breaker, and a refurbed one on an exchange basis for £700. The rebuild is by far the best option IMO.

Yup, a few details about your car in profile might solicit more specific answers.

You probably have a GKN, but its quite easy to tell. Look up the driveshafts & the BTR diff has toothed sensors between diff & driveshaft (for ABS I guess ~ but used on the passenger side for the speedo), the GKN has a toothed wheel (crown) between the propshaft & diff.

Just as a warning: the GKN is rarer, and casings + crown wheel can eat each other, when bearings fail. These parts can only be salvaged from other diffs, and where becoming hard to find a few years ago ~ so v expensive. There may be more 'retired' cars now so that there are a few available ~ but it will still cost a lot if you run the diff when it is graunching.

You really need to get under the back end (on ramps) and give it a good inspection.

I managed to replace my diff with no problems,
as long as you have a good set of tools, trolley jack and axle stands removal is fairly straight forward, putting it back into position is the trickest job, second pair of hands helps.
