Hi guys

Just picked up my new Chimaera on Wednesday.

What a car, still finding my way round it and getting the feel for it.

1st mechanical problem 3days in, is the Temp guage goes straight (to well over 90C) even when cold.....and as the engine heats up climbs to 120C. Panic'd when i first noticed it.

Any ideas guys on how to check where the fault may typicaly be? Sounds like the sender unit to me, but advise would be great.

Check the electrical connection to the gauge first, I seem to remember this happening when the connector was marginal ~ quicjk crimp & good as new.

Nope, That didn't work, Does any one know how to test a temp sensor, is it the unit on the swirl tank? OR is that the sensor for switching the fans. Didn't expect this 3 days in to getting it, but hay!

get the modwise temp sender kit youl find them on here if you search the forums.it uses a different sender already on the engine that rover use and gives a better reading along with a variable resister that lets you set the gauge reading spot on

That oen on the swirl pot is the otter for the fans. The temp guage sender is on top of the engine, behind the water pump, on the inlet manifold.

If your gauge is wired to the otter switch, that may be why you are seeing extreme readings :-)

IIRC the sender you are looking for should have a wire that is blue with a green stripe ~ they are not visible on all looms tho, and there is only the single spade connector on it (grounded to engine block).
