I’ve got a starter motor and water pump that was bought for a rover V8, will they fit my 1999 450 or are the bits fitted TVR special in any way? If they are the correct ones for a TVR then I'll keep them as spares if not I'll get rid.

The are, Starter motor, Lucas S42466937
25691H 21 78. 3M100 12V
Also written on in pen is LRS 318??

The Solenoid 195 Lucas
76945A 12V. 50 – 76 Lucas 195.

The water pump is a Leyland part
on the casting is the number 614468 MCB 1A
The impellor is IMCD 602301

I bought these bits a long time ago (late 80’s) with the view to doing a V8 conversion on my MG,
Bought a house and got married etc, kept the car but sold it last Aug after 20 years of ownership and bought a TVR instead of doing the V8 conversion! A very wise thing I did.
Only problem is the wife didn't drive the MG but can't keep her out of the TVR!

Many thanks, I know someone on here will have the answers.

Hi,

The 99 450 is a Serpentine engine, wide single belt drive to all the ancilaries, so the water pump wpuld ned the pully changing to take the later wide one, and may not fit the front casing of the engine either, as this chnaged from the early 3.5 Rover V8.
The 450 also operates with the later small starter motor rather then the early large v8 items. It may be possible to fit an early large item, but probably the exhaust will get in the way when fitted and would also have to be removed to fit the starter motor in the first place!
So probably better and cheaper to replace with the later small high capacity starter motor which can be replaced with the exhaust in situ.
Hope this helps.

They won't fit. Starter motor is the wrong size. The water pump won't fit the later serpentine engines.

They would probably fit a wedge if you wanted to help a fellow TVR owner but there were many different water pumps fitted to the V8 in the late 80's. Some fit but the pulley etc is out of alignment. Some don't fit but the pulley would be in the right place if it did.

Put them on eBAY and they weill sell quite easily. Healthy trade in Rover V8 parts these days.

I think he may be surprised by the price, isnt the MG water pump the pretty desireable short nosed variant?

Many thanks for all the replies, very much appreciated.

Yes I remember the water pump is a short nose version now you say, so any idea of its value?
I also have a bottom pulley for a traditional V belt that is special for a V8 conversion on an MG I think.

As you say I'll advertise them and see what response I get.
