Just spotted these in the classifieds. What do people think? Ripe for nicking I'd say, and perhaps a tad OTT....

You're right - but so do chimaera's according to some... have a look here...

Edited to say - Cerbera probably would be the lesser known but equally frightful younger sister of Cerberus - just as prone to vicious biting but even more tail-happy?

I am the creator of these badges. I have had one on the back of the Chim for the past 4/5 months and one on the back of the Escort (would you believe!) all winter with no problems. Have a look at my profile, not very clear but I will shortly post a better picture now I have a new camera.

The Cerberus and Chimaera are not the same beast. Chimaera only had 2 heads.

Cerbera is derived from Cerberus. Cerberus was the mythological three-headed hellhound guardian of the gates of hades. Although why you'd need a guardian of this ferocity is beyond me; it's not as if people really want to get in...

Chimaera literally translates into 'she goat', although according to myth, it's part goat, part lion, and part snake.

I always liked that TVR named the Griffith, Chimaera, and Cerbera from fear inspiring mythological beasts. T350C seems like a bit of a comedown after that...

The Griffith was named after Jack Griffith who came up with the idea of sticking a huge V8 into a Grantura...

There is more to the name "Chimaera" than just that.

If you look at http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=chimaera you'll see that it has several meanings:

1. Greek Mythology. A fire-breathing she-monster usually represented as a composite of a lion, goat, and serpent.
2. A monster made up of grotesquely disparate parts.
3. A fanciful mental illusion or fabrication. A vain, foolish, or incongruous fancy.

I like to think all 3 apply. From (1) we get a fire-breathing monster (ok, not compared to a Cerbera, but compared to many road cars), from (2) we get the fact that it has TVR, Rover, Ford, etc. parts and from (3) for many owners owning one is a dream or flight of fancy.

There you go then, Griffith - "fear inspiring mythological beast".
The T350c does sound more like a kettle I agree but still want one very much please.
Watched a series on TV about 10 years ago called Chimaera. It was about a monster bred in a laboratory or something. Anyone else remember?

I remeber that, it wore a pair of dungarees and a check shirt. Quite a good series. No cars in it though!

I remember that show. Some monster called Adam or something. I bought my first Chimaera during that airing.

Steve - after taking in the Chimaera and Cerbera background, I always assumed the Griffith stemmed from the mythological Griffin! Thanks for setting me straight.

Naith,

The Chimaera had 3 heads. A Lions, a Goats and the tail had the head of a serpent.

You're right. I thought the tail was made up of the other end of the snake...

Of course chimaera is the root of the word chimerical, which means:

produced by a wildly fanciful imagination

So that's appropriate for most TVR's then .

Just a thought but shouldn't the Chimaera be rampant over golf clubs?

Perhaps I should have made a golf playing Chimaera. Having said that I have been informed that you can get a set of golf club in a Griff. Not sure if you can get the roof in the boot as well.

Could be because "chimaera" also means an organism consisting of at least two genetically different kinds of tissue as a result of mutation. And we just thought it was a nice car!
