Can anyone shed any light on this situation? I currently have no dipped beam. The switch is fine, the fuses are fine, the relay is fine, the bulbs are brand new and the sidelight and main beam is working fine?

Can you shed any light on the subject? rolleyes

If the earth was the problem the main would not work either.

Dip switch/supply problem?

On the dipped beam relay, there are 2 terms -- |, you should see 12v at the | one, try sticking 12v down the -- one and see if your lights work. male spades plug into the relay sockets on the fusebox nicely for testing.

When you switch on main beam via the indicator stalk it also switches off the dipped beam. I'd suspect a problem in the indicator stalk assembly. Any friendly scrapyard ought to lend you a Vauxhall Cavalier replacement to test it - it's a ten minute job to fit - and if it works you'll probably get the replacement switch for a fiver.

From the 4 connections in the relay socket it is easier to diagnose where the fault is.
1. Relay or its terminals/seats
2. Power circuit (battery ~ fusebox ~ light bulb ~ chassis)
3. switch circuit (switch ~ fusebox /relay/ gd) IIRC

YMMV depending on which position your dipped light relay / fuse are in. Sorry if its a bit woolly I know mine, but its like no other...

Since all the switch & relay do is connect 12v across the terminals I mentioned earlier, its easiest to check 2) first.
If that fails stick a mm across the other 2 terms (or even a light bulb) and see if the switch activates it 3).

Simple logic will dictate where the fault lies if these tests fail. If they are all ok the relay/contacts are at fault. It aint rocket science...

Sorry to bother you but as I am not a rocket scientist either can I ask what YMMV means?

Sorry 4 the FLA, I hate them too really, but laziness dictates their use:-) "Your Mileage May Vary". Not all the relays are wired the same why round as they moved around the fusebox. The Fusebox internally is always the same (except for that unusual odd one when they ran out?) so the internal tracks limit the configuration, a few areas allow jumpers to be used but it is mainly bus bars within the unit. I am pretty sure tho that all the light relays used are standard which have the coil across the 2 opposite parallel terms, and switch across the 2 opposite terminals which are perpendicular to each other.
