So, over the past week I have done about 500 miles across Surrey/W Sussex, mostly top down (but not one Spotted ) and today when the gritters were laying a carpet of rock salt and not much grit I must have hooned a hundred miles in the wonderful winter sunshine with ice cold air nicely adding to the bhp. My Starmist Blue is now rather saltcaked and I dread to think how much granular salt has been deposited in every nook and cranny of her 'down-under' department.

So what's the advice? - cold water is not a good solvent for salt so no point in squirting a hose up her skirt, I don't have any means to provide a hot water douche and actually thinking about making all that down-under salt moist and corrosive is an even more shocking thought than leaving it dry. What's a man to do?

Even washing off with a hose is a bonus with this stuff, concentrate on the underbonnet lower areas and the outriggers and gusset plates around the chassis area,a pressure washer is a benefit, you should do this as often as you can until they stop gritting the roads.its highly corrosive and one of the reasons i park mine up during this time of year, although ive got withdrawal bad.

Thanks for that - I'll venture out tomorrow and give it a good pressure wash avoiding the GRP (). You've got more self-control than me - I can't stop myself. If there's an opportunity to drive the TVR whatever the weather I'll take it - it's such a rewarding, faultless experience.

Nick, its comments like that that make things worse, ill just have to resist the urge, not long now.Oh yes if your pressure washer as the soap intake tube use some car wash detergent too it will help flush that salt out.

This sends shivers down my spine... I can almost feel the salt eating away at those outriggers etc...
