Ok, deposit paid on my 97 4.5l and i collect next sat!!!
Before i get really excited i just want to check a few things i spotted on the car during my test drive (dealer let me out alone for 30 mins!)
It may be a bit late now but i want to make sure the things i spotted arent major problems!
Windows- went up and down REAL slow (compared to my VW), didnt bother me but its not a sign of a dud battery or something is it?
Engine- Sounded fine, went fine and temp stayed at 70...but on tickover once warm it hunted between 500rpm and 1000rpm- at one point it dropped to 400rpm and stalled (is it a requirement for a TVR to conk out on a test drive?) Anyway it started straight back up and dealer said it would be air/fuel idel valve thingy and an easy fix- is that most probably right or is the engine going to drop of?
Wishbones- Bits of metal holding the front wheels on- wishbones? i thnk they are! Anyway- had a look for rust- bit brown in places but nothing like corrosion- just looked like it needed a wire brush!
But the coating that was on the metal seemed to be flaking away- is that ok on a 4-5 yr old car and to be expected or is it bad? Assuming its normal should it be scrubbed of and sprayed with hammerite or something?
Other than these things it was in excellent condition and bloody quick! (bit crashy over potholes but i guess im used to a Passat!)

Windows: A bit of lube for the window runners usually helps, but they are a bit on the slow side anyway.
Idling: It shouldn't hunt like this, but mine does occasionally do this. You need to know the car before you can say if it's a major problem. There are cheap and expensive reasons behind it, so get it looked at. Most important thing for the engine is oil pressure, provided this is steady at 10-15psi when the engine is warm and rises with revs you're ok. Exact values on the gauges will vary from car to car tho'.
Wishbones: Yep they rust, frequency of replacement varies with how well you look after them. Coating flaking from the chassis also happens on most cars, a combination of hammerite and waxoyl is the usual way to protect your chassis. Either do it yourself or get it done by a specialist, it's not that expensive a job.
Welcome aboard,
Steve.
