Windscreen Replacement
Discussion
has anybody had any good / bad expereinces with having a new windscreen fitted?
My TVR dealer tells me to get an original TVR factory windscreen with TVR rubber strips.
My local RAC Autowindscreen fitter made a deep sigh when I asked him about it. They can't do a mobile fitting - the car has to go down to their shop - and it will take at least a day. He told me that the last Chimaera he did took three days!

Yep i have had a bad experience, its was fitted by a so called specalist thro a body shop that does tvr . The rubber across the windscreen does not sit right even though they reused the original rubbers. Also the screen is out at the drivers end, Can send you a photo if you PM me.
Anyway its gone to be refitted again.

my experience was bad..the dealer cracked the screen to start with so I claimed on my insurance. The screen was replaced at the dealers but the specialist wouldn't listen to them and slashed the interior trim around the inside of the screen getting the old one out.It went back to the dealer again and they replaced the screen and trim. They used new rubbers and they don't fit so well on the corners.
When my screen went last month my insurance insisted that I should use RAC windscreens. I was not that keen but was able to speak to someone in the workshop who had done a few TVR's and knew what he was doing. Definitely a job for the workshop and not for a mobile unit. As has been said they reuse the screen rubber as it often fits better than a new one, the end result was absolutely fine, took them about 3 hours.

Dealerships very rarely install windscreens or bonded glass; they call specialists in which are largely independent companies.
The larger, national companies have had some pretty bad press within some circles but they're not all bad. Many branches have long-serving and very experienced technicians working for them however, when they're really good they tend to set up on their own and become specialists.

Had a bad experience with a previous Chimaera with Autoglass - THEY HAD 4 ATTEMPTS and they still didnt get it right - 1 fitter came to the house under instruction then when he saw what the job was said he wouldnt attempt it because he had never done one before! ( at least he was honest i suppose).
They're only explanation was " well it's effectively a kit car!"
It is fair to say that these clowns couldnt complete the job properly so from this experience i would certainly use someone with experience thats not to say that the other fitters cant complete the job just need someone with some experience fitting these i think!
